Easter with Babies and Toddlers: Simple Ideas Rooted in Connection

5 April 20264 min read

Easter is one of those lovely moments in the year where we slow down a little, gather together, and enjoy the simple things. If you're spending it with a baby or toddler, you don't need elaborate plans — just a little intention and a lot of presence.

Here are some gentle, sensory-friendly Easter ideas that work beautifully for babies and toddlers — whether you're at home, in the garden, or visiting family. Many of these ideas also tie in beautifully with the kinds of skills we teach in our baby massage, baby yoga, and mindfulness courses.

🐣 A sensory Easter basket

Instead of a traditional egg hunt (which can be overwhelming for very young children), try putting together a small sensory basket. Fill it with things that are safe to touch and explore — a smooth wooden egg, a soft yellow chick, a piece of crinkly tissue paper, a small sprig of lavender. Let your baby or toddler explore at their own pace. Watch what they reach for. Follow their lead.

This kind of open-ended sensory play supports curiosity, fine motor skills, and — most importantly — it's calm and connection-led.

🌿 A gentle outdoor moment

If the weather allows, Easter is a wonderful time to take a slow walk outside and notice the signs of spring together. Point out the blossom on the trees, the daffodils, the birds. Talk to your baby even if they can't talk back yet — they are listening, absorbing, and connecting with you.

For toddlers, you could make a simple “spring scavenger hunt” — look for something yellow, something soft, something that smells nice. Keep it playful and pressure-free.

💆 An Easter massage moment

If you've been to a baby massage class or trained as an instructor with us, Easter is a lovely time to bring out your massage routine. Light a candle, put on some gentle music, and take a few minutes to connect through touch.

You could even weave a little Easter story into the session — “We're going on an egg hunt… let's check your little toes…” Babies love the sound of your voice, and combining narrative with touch is something we explore in our Calmer Stories training.

🧘 A mindful moment for you

Easter can also be a good reminder to pause and breathe. If you're a parent or carer, it's easy to get caught up in making everything “special” for the children. But the most special thing you can offer is your presence.

Take a moment today — even just two minutes — to sit quietly, breathe, and notice how you feel. You can't pour from an empty cup, and your calm is genuinely contagious. Babies and toddlers co-regulate with the adults around them. When you settle, they settle too.

🎶 An Easter song and movement session

Toddlers especially love seasonal songs and movement. Try making up a simple Easter song together — “Hop little bunny, hop hop hop” with big jumps, or “Crack the egg” with a slow curl and a big stretch open. It doesn't need to be polished. The joy is in the doing together.

This kind of playful movement is at the heart of our Music & Movement Instructor Training — if you've ever thought about running your own sessions for families, it's a wonderful place to start.

A gentle reminder

Easter doesn't need to be busy, loud, or full of chocolate (especially with very young children!). The things babies and toddlers remember — even if they can't articulate it — are the feeling of being held, heard, and loved. That's what we're always working towards here at To Baby and Beyond.

Wishing you and your families a warm, connected, and peaceful Easter. 🌿
