What length of baby massage course do parents (and instructors) find to be the most appealing and effective? Do pay as you go classes work for people?
These questions were asked at our October live Q&A session for To Baby and Beyond students past and present. Other questions that were asked are listed below.
Generally instructors found that a 4 or 5 week course was the optimal course length. This number of sessions allowed for time to settle in, bonds to be built between both parents and babies, as well as with the other parents. This latter reason is an important one for new parents, as forming new networks is often important to them, and especially in unusual circumstances such as we are experiencing now.
As far as pay-as-you-go classes are concerned, the consensus was that this can work if you have been teaching for a little while and have an established audience. It can be popular with parents who don’t want to commit to a course or who have already done a course and now want to sustain the networking aspect of the classes. However it can be quite heavy going on the admin front. One participant particularly recommended getting a card payment machine that can be operated from your phone and does not require wifi.
Other questions asked at our October Q&A session include:
- When can baby first be massaged or do baby yoga?
- Do people provide handouts for parents in baby massage classes?
- Why is it not appropriate to massage baby after they’ve been immunised?
- Is there any training available for those wishing to teach baby massage with twins or other multiples?
- Do people run classes specifically for dads and are they popular?
