Whether you work with children or you're a parent or carer, there's always times when little ones find themselves in a pickle. In these stressful times, try one or all of these ideas!

  • Make sure intrusive loud noises are kept to a minimum and introduce some soft music to the environment.
  • Have a cuddle. A cuddle helps release oxytocin, the ‘love drug’, which is produced as a result of skin-to-skin touch. Oxytocin initiates a series of events that lead to the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain reliever and feel-good hormones.
  • Give them some one-on-one time. Babies and children often get fractious when they don’t feel as if they’re getting enough attention. Eye to eye contact always helps.
  • Make sure you’re relaxed. Babies and young children pick up on emotions in others so if they sense you’re stressed, they may become stressed themselves.
  • Try a little massage. If you’re a baby massage teacher, you know what you’re doing! If not, take some time to learn a couple of simple strokes so that you can massage baby when they need it. If you're interested in learning baby massage skills to use in your workplace or to teach to parents, check out our Diploma in Teaching Infant Massage.

We hope you find these tips useful!
