Balloon breathing is a technique we cover in our baby yoga, toddler yoga and Calmer Stories instructor courses. It's a really lovely way to extend the breath and also focus down into the pelvic floor area. It's not just wonderful for children but also a great technique for pregnant mums to use during contractions/ surges.
Here's how to approach it:
- Place your hands, palms down on your tummy.
- Make sure your fingertips are touching.
- Take a big breath in (perhaps counting up to 15 or 20) and imagine you are breathing in from a big balloon.
- Give the balloon a colour.
- As you breathe out imagine the balloon floating away.
- Repeat.
You can incorporate balloon breathing into a baby yoga, toddler/preschool yoga or Calmer Stories session.
If you'd like to learn to teach baby yoga, toddler yoga or Calmer Stories, check out the different options we have for learning. Some courses are available via face-to-face or live Zoom learning and all of our courses have an online distance learning option. Check out the details and get started!
